eric's 6th and 7th posts!

a-ha! after a month, i finally have internet again.... believe it or not, i am back from morocco and now it's sweden with the crappy internet service. what gives? at any rate, i already sent these along to jeane, i hope they've made it...
after midori's entry in Megan's book, i really loved the temperature of the book so far. i chose to build off that in my entry, plus to continue with my abstract collage/ cutting of the books. it's the image with mostly orange, grey and red... hints of blue in there to balance it all off!
and frankly, i forgot whose book the other entry was in? hmmmm..... there was a LOT of stamps, so i made a big ole stamp, of course with something collaged and sparkly, reminding us of the here and now.
keep on sketchbookin, y'all!

eric

Angela's addition to Jeane's book
Jackie's entry in Jeane's book
I enjoyed creating this entry. I had been collecting stamps since Jeane posted her first entry and the idea, not that we get much post with real stamps on it! The idea evolved around the Dutch bike, the bird from Malaysia and the Queens head stamps from the UK, which I ripped up to create the road.
After 4 entries I am now looking forward to completing my contribution in the remaining books - I hope they find their way to Spain

Entry #7? for Annika's book!

Hi Everybody!
I am posting an entry for Annika's book. A bit of a logistical dilemma...I believe it is the first book to reach it's full circle! SO, do I send it back to Annika to finish- (She is currently travelling the world!) or send on to Angela for round #2 of entries? Let me know what you think!
Happy Summertime-
STILL counting down in Berlin :)

eric's 5th post!

horray!
finally i figured out where to put some of my new flat-eyelets. i chose the colors as they reference some of the pastels i saw elsewhere in others' entries. the collage is a woodblock print and a counter-proof of some stencils, i just felt that the book needed something DARK after all the lovely, light and airy entries. leave it to the one man in the project to mess it up! hope all's well with y'all!

Jackie's email address
This is for Jackie, or for anyone who might have a different email address for her... the ASVALENCIA.ORG email address doesn't seem to be working... does anyone have a different email address for Jackie?
Thanks!

Midori's entry in Annika's book
Let me just say that Annika is a MASTER of the photo transfer! Sorry this photo is so late (my camera cable got nicked, but all is good again!) This one was definitely a challenge and although unfortunately my photo transfer skills don't nearly live up to Annika's, it was a lot of fun! I'm looking forward to seeing what Eric adds next!

4th entry into Jeane's book by Angela
I finally finished my addition, but blogger won't let me upload. I get this error:
Unable to upload file because the site has exceeded its file upload quota.
I'm mailing the book today, and I've got a photo saved, so when we figure out what I'm doing wrong, I can retry.
here's a flickr link to make do for now. http://www.flickr.com/photos/angelamaxwell/4603001123/
:) Hope everybody is doing well!

Jackie's entry into Megan's Book

Is adding an entry into someone elses book getting easier? Maybe I am more confident but the challenge each month to add onto Angela's drawings continues. This months challenge was a hard one and it took me a few tries to get to a design that worked for me. One thing which is easy though is to share the books with friends!

eric's 4th post!

"movement", the theme to angela's book....
COOL!
with all the imagery of weather/ atmosphere, i felt the book needed a storm... (sorry the scanner cropped the image a bit). a little collage of spray-painted orange tissue paper and handmade paper with woodblock printing on it. jill: feel free to weave/ collage stuff into my piece to integrate with the format. keep the good times rolling!

Midori's entry in Angela's book

So sorry for the lateness of this!! I've just finished my last period of utter hell at school and am enjoying my newly grown muscles from hauling sketchbooks and artwork home, and am loving having some evenings and weekends finally free! Here's what's on its way to Eric... expanding on Angela's theme of "movement"... Cheers!

Angela's entry into Megan's book
Spring Break traveling has caused a tardy entry. As always though, I am enjoying our exchange immensely, and look forward to adding to the next book. I hope all is well with you, fellow ECIesketchers.

eric's 3rd entry

HOWDY funteam!
I can't believe that I actually got my entry done in time for once... pat myself on the back.
In any case, I was delighted to contribute in this book (as usual). I followed geometry laid down by Jackie and by the silhouette of Midori's waves. I love glitter (I hope it stays put where I sprayed it!) I hope we weren't planning on using the backside cuz my spray soaked thru a tad: OOPS! Live and learn....
Happy Spring to you all!

Eric's 2nd post

WOW!
I just heard from Jill that my book finally arrived in Kuwait (note to self: it takes about a month for mail to get from Morocco to Kuwait). I gotta do better next time mailing the book right away...
Well, working into Midori's book was super fun! I really loved the fold-out-ability of her book, so I took the thing and just printed a woodblock print with a stencil right into it. I was inspired by the sound-waves coming out from the minaret, so I added some more in black, using the natural geometry of the book's folds to tell me what to do.
Good works, everyone, its looking awesome!

2nd Entry in Jeane's Book

Hi everybody! LOVE the idea of the stamp as a starting point for Jeane's book! The German post office offered a slightly boring car response, so I took a faux stamp from some junk mail and included that in the background, too. It started as some simple stamps, but the landscape and personal map qualities of important places on Jeane's first entry sort of spring-boarded into my Berlin interpretations, too. And again...chaos seems to result. I think I spot a trend in my own work- and life??? :) Happy almost springtime!
Angela's entry in Annika's book
I agree with Jackie, it's a challenge to add artwork to existing imagery. I am not as happy with this one as I was with my first, but I figure I have at least six more opportunities to improve. Thanks for participating everyone! As others have commented, it is such a thrill to see the different approaches.
Second entry into Angela's book

I didn't realise how difficult it would be to draw in someone else's book. I spend all day working with students, giving them ideas to develop their work but when it came down to creating this page I struggled. It was not until I saw Midori's addition to my first drawing that I saw lost opportunities from Angela's bold original.

Second panel in Jackie's book finished!
Jackie sent a beautiful illustration of a sleeping cat. The biggest challenge was figuring out what to put in front of the one paw that wasn't showing... after doing an image search for "cat toys" I found an awesome Catnip Sushi toy, which I added in, then the rest developed from there. Eric, I was planning to send this sooner given the slow Turkey-Morocco connection... sorry!! Hope it gets there reasonably soon!

Eric's first post

Howdy ECIeSketchers!
Pardon my tardy post, but here is the first spread I put together for my accordion book. I made the book myself, with a small size and lightweight in mind. Each of us 8 artist will work on one spread, possible to work on 2 sides of that spread, as you will eventually discover when and if the book reaches you... I haven't yet tested the Moroccan Postal Service, but Jill will be the first one to let us know if it made it to Kuwait or not... I sure hope so, the images posted thus far look TOTALLY SWEET!
My images began with making rubbings of local textures/ patterns I found around where I live in Tetouan, Morocco. The smaller image is actually the full fold out spread, with mirror-like plastic, YOUR reflection participates in the surface of the book's pages when the spread is open... Otherwise, my work is simply playing with paper, materials, and abstract composition. Hope all is well chez vous, e
Jackie's book arrived!
Yay! Jackie's book arrived in Istanbul today... it's a beautifully made little sketchbook! Angela's right... getting "art mail" IS the best!! Thanks Jackie!

Megan's First Entry
Angela's first entry
It took me longer than I would have liked to complete my first entry. Many apologies to Jackie. Making the book itself took forever (poor measurements and spray-glue-mishaps). However, it is officially in the post now, "priority", in an attempt to make up for lost time. My first entry began as a doodle. It grew randomly from two dots, small imperfections in the paper. After a few lines, the figures took shape and it reminded me of dancers or performers of some sort. So, I thought I'd suggest a theme of "movement" for this book. I hope the idea might be specific enough to inspire, but general enough to not be restrictive. :) Happy travels, first book!
Annika's First Entry
I hope I'm not breaking any etiquette rules here, but I wanted to share the image that greeted me in the mail today.
I photographed Annika's entry (in the book she started) and am looking forward to adding my own.
It's nice to get mail, but art mail is the best! :)

Jeane's first entry

Hello. With my first entry I used a stamp as a starting point. Norway is full of all kinds of nature so I chose this stamp and went from there. Hopefully everyone will find a cool stamp and have fun developing their pages this way (use as many pages as you want...since we are only 8 people there is lots of space).

Jackie's first entry
Midori's first entry

Here is my first entry, which is on its way to Eric in Morocco. Its kind of a tribute to Istanbul and my favorite place in the world... my living room. (It's a kind of souvenir for myself as I'll be moving back home to the states this summer.) My book has no theme... just do whatever comes to mind when you get it! Please help yourself to 3 or 4 pages for your additions!
